On-Site Training - Machining for the Firearm Examiner
Registration for the on-site 3 day course on Machining for the Firearm Examiner which includes hands on machine use, lecture, and comparison microscope examination/discussion of samples produced. Students explore and take with them with a solid understanding of class, sub class and individual characteristics and how to differentiate/evaluate.
Additionally, students will make their own consecutively manufactured samples (lathe turning, face milling, and plunge milling) for evaluation. Any samples made during the class will be provided to the student along with bunters, and consecutively manufactured slide, firing pin, extractor and barrel samples. Barrel shortening methods are also discussed and students will use various methods to shorten barrels and make samples to observe and retain for future reference.
Classes are limited to 10 students to maximize student/instructor interaction. We have 6 comparison microscopes (2 Leica and 4 Leeds) to keep students engaged during the hand's on work of the class.
