Forensic Firearm Identification Kit
The Forensic
Firearm Identification Kit designed by Precision Forensic Testing
utilizes real world samples and actual crime laboratory procedures
to reinforce the lecture Power Point.
The Power Point presentation
has over 100 high quality
photographs and eight video clips for teaching forensic firearm
identification. Teaching notes
outlining key points pertaining to the
presentation are also included.
The components of
the forensic firearm education kit allow for three different laboratory
exercises. These laboratory exercises encourage the activity based
skills of observation, measurement, mathematics, and microscopy.
One kit will
easily serve 24 students (based on students working in pairs).
Additional calipers are available for purchase and strongly recommended.
The lab exercises rely on accurately measuring characteristics of the
samples. To provide the maximum value to you, all of the samples are reusable.
Available with
purchase of a kit is a six (6) pack of 2 inch glass lens 8X magnifying
glasses. In the event your classroom doesn't have sufficient
stereoscopes, the magnifying glasses may be used to aid students in
observing microscopic markings.
The analyses
performed in these laboratory exercises include using the General
Rifling Characteristics of the samples to determine possible makes of
firearms, examining the characteristics of cartridge cases, and
comparing bullet characteristics with a firearm barrel. These are the exact same procedures used in Forensic
Crime Laboratories.
